OFFICE LOCATION: ISSS is located in Room 2004 of the FedEx Global Education Center. The FedEx Global Education Center is located at 301 Pittsboro Street (at the corner of McCauley and Pittsboro Streets).

INFLENZA A (H1N1) FORMERLY CALLED SWINE FLU:

UNC's Campus Health Services has information regarding Influenza H1N1 on its website at http://campushealth.unc.edu with links to additional sources of information regarding the flu outbreak.

The University's Department of Environmental Health and Safety also has a list of resources at http://ehs.unc.edu/.

UPDATES REGARDING THE SEVIS FEE (I-901): Effective October 27, 2008, the SEVIS fee was increased to $200 for students seeking F-1 visas and $180 for students and scholars seeking J-1 visas.

According to the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), because of recent fraud issues, students and scholars from the following countries will be unable to pay the SEVIS fee using a credit card:

"The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) is not accepting credit card payments at this time. Please remit your payment by cashier's check, money order or Western Union transfer. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation. If you wish to continue submitting a new payment please click here."

If a student from a country other than those listed above receives this message, please contact the I-901 Helpline [314-418-8833].

The FMJFee team is available for anyone who has questions about submitting payment. Please contact the FMJFee team at fmjfee.sevis@dhs.gov if you have any questions and/or concerns.

NEW LOCATION FOR THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S ENGLISH CONVERSATION GROUP: The group meets on Thursdays from 10 a.m. - 12 noon. The new location is at Amity Church at 825 Estes Drive, Chapel Hill (near the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Estes Drive). Please see this map for directions. The entrance to the church faces south towards the YMCA, please use the parking lot located behind the church.

NEW OPTIONAL PRACTICAL TRAINING (OPT) RULES FOR F-1 STUDENTS: On April 8, 2008 the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) published an Interim Final Rule in the U.S. Federal Register that makes important changes to post-completion Optional Practical Training (OPT) for F-1 students. For more information about the new rules and for other general OPT information, please visit the OPT section of our website.

J-1 SCHOLAR ORIENTATION SESSIONS: Newly arrived J-1 Scholars are required to attend a J-1 Scholar Orientation. All orientations are held at ISSS and begin at 11:00 a.m. It is necessary to attend only one orientation session. Please check in at the front desk.
