Affairs
International Student and Scholar Services maintains several on-going programs. They are designed
to help students and their families feel more comfortable while they are
here at UNC-Chapel Hill and to provide opportunities to meet different kinds of people
in different environments. All the programs listed are open to students.
Programs open to scholars include Orientation, International Women's English
Conversation Group, Tax Seminars, International Student Organizations,
and Advising.
International Student and Scholar Services also administers the Class of 38 Summer Abroad Fellowship Program
for U.S. sophomores and juniors who want to pursue an independent project
in another country.

Advising
and counseling services for foreign students and scholars are primarily
concerned with non-immigrant visa matters, but other types of personal
advising (financial, academic, cross-cultural adjustment, etc.) are offered
as well. Referral to other campus support services is common.
ISSS provides a directory of some ESL programs
in Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Durham, and Greensboro, North Carolina. The

The
Conversation Partners Program and the International
Women's English Conversation Group also
provide opportunities for students and scholars to immerse themselves
in the English Language.
International Student and Scholar Services has a directory which includes a list of private tutors.
Students are at the
center of the Carolina learning community. To ensure a
successful experience, students are encouraged to take advantage of a
variety of programs and services that promote student learning and
